application process

NOTE: The next deadline for applications is August 21, 2008.

There are two steps to applying for a grant from The Virginia W. Kettering Foundation.

1. Discussion: Please contact Judith M. Thompson, executive director, (937-228-1021) to determine if your organization and proposed purpose for a grant falls within the interests of the foundation.

To be eligible an organization must:
  • Have a 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service

  • Propose to conduct charitable activities within Montgomery, Greene, Darke, Miami, Preble, Butler and/or Warren Counties in Ohio

The foundation will not consider applications for:
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes

  • Activities for specific individuals

  • Efforts to carry on propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence legislation or any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office

2. Application: If it is determined that your organization and its proposed activities are eligible for consideration, you will be provided with application instructions via email. All eligible applications are reviewed by a six-member Distribution Committee consisting of three family members and three community members. Applicants will be advised within two weeks of the Distribution Committee meeting as to whether or not they have been funded.

The committee will accept only one application in a twelve-month period from a qualified organization. The committee generally meets three times a year.
